If you are in Walnut Creek, California, and its surroundings, please book an appointment with Dr. Mark Wong and the team to experience the transformative powers of CEREC dentistry.
If you’ve ever had a dental crown, you understand it involves several dental visits spanning several weeks. During the first trip, your dentist grinds down your tooth and takes your bite impressions using messy, uncomfortable gooey material. Then, your images are sent to an offsite lab for fabrication. Since it takes weeks for your crown to be ready, your dentist sends you home with an ill-fitting provisional crown. During this time, you must be careful with your restoration since it can pop out loose!
When your crown is ready, you must book another appointment with your dentist for fitment. While traditional dental crowns work, they aren’t suited for patients with time constraints. With the limitations of conventional crowns, a newer option has emerged to take the “best crown” throne.
With CEREC dentistry, we’ve reduced the time you spend on the dental chair. CEREC uses Computer-Aided Design (CAD) technology to design your crown and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) for manufacturing your restoration right at the dentist’s office. No more wait, multiple anesthesia shots, or temporaries!
Preparing your tooth for a CEREC crown is similar to the traditional crown, but that’s where the similarity ends. Instead of taking impressions of your prepped tooth with manual impressions, CEREC uses a digital scanner that’s more comfortable and precise. Then, we feed your digital scans into a CAD unit to design your crown with the exact specifications of your tooth.
When your crown design is approved, we feed the image into an in-house milling machine to fabricate your crown. This process takes about 15 minutes to complete! Once your crown is ready, we try it fit before bonding it securely to your tooth using dental cement.
CEREC crowns are the real definition of convenience — there’s no need to make multiple dental appointments or wait for weeks to get a crown. Same-day dental crowns restore your smile in just one visit. This convenience means you could crack your tooth in the morning and have a brand-new smile by evening!
