Regular dental visits will not only help keep your mouth healthy, but will also help keep the rest of your body healthy. Regular dental care allows us to monitor and catch signs of tooth decay or gum disease during their early stages. Also we can detect and prevent potential problems from arising or getting worse. There are numerous systemic diseases that are directly related to the mouth such as cardiovascular disease, dementia, respiratory infections and diabetes.

While everyone certainly does not need an electric toothbrush, it would benefit most patients. Most electric toothbrushes come with a timer which is a friendly reminder to brush for the recommended 2 minutes. With a powered toothbrush, all you need to do is angle the toothbrush at 45 degrees to the tooth and gums and then let the toothbrush do all of the work.

Most dental problems do not have any symptoms until they reach more advanced stages. Waiting for teeth to become painful can lead to bigger dental problems and are often more difficult and more expensive to fix. With the advancement of dental technology, cavities can be detected earlier on, making them much more manageable and cost effective.

Bad breath, or halitosis, can make people feel uncomfortable around others. There are numerous systemic diseases that are linked to bad breath, but a majority of bad breath originates in the mouth. The first step is making sure that your oral hygiene (brushing, flossing and mouthwash) is up to par. The second step is seeing your doctor and dentist to make sure there are no medical reasons for the bad breath. Lastly, monitor what foods you are eating. Foods such as garlic, onions, dairy and fish can cause bad breath.
