Do you need to replace missing teeth? Are you unsure about what options are available to you? Are you worried you will end up with false teeth that look unnatural and fit poorly? Dr. Mark A. Wong of Walnut Creek, California understands your concerns, and offers a variety of tooth replacement options to his patients, including partial and complete dentures.
Understanding dentures
There are many ways to utilize dentures within the smile. Below are the few more common options that our patients choose from:
- Partial dentures – partial dentures are best for individuals with single tooth loss or teeth missing throughout the dental arch. These dentures are a specialized appliance that is made with either a metal or pink plastic framework. It attaches to the remaining teeth for support and is a very economical choice for patients missing one or more teeth.
- Complete dentures – complete dentures are sometimes referred to as cosmetic dentures or full dentures. These are utilized to replace all the teeth in the dental arch. Complete dentures include false teeth and false gums and are made of high-quality acrylics.
- Implant-retained dentures –. For most, these dentures are the best way to replace missing teeth. They are the most stable and natural looking compared to either partial dentures or a traditional removable denture. They are held in by dental implants that are surgically implanted along the ridge to stabilize them and allow them to fit and function at their best. This is the most desirable option, especially for patients who may have used complete dentures in the past and had difficulty keeping them in place. To be a candidate for implant-retained dentures, patients need to have sufficient jawbone to ensure the implants remain where they are placed and to stimulate bone growth through osseointegration.
