What to expect during the dental implant process 

While the dental implant process typically takes a few visits over the course of several months, patients find that the excellent end results are well worth the wait. 

• During your initial consultation, Dr. Wong will evaluate your teeth, bone, and other oral structures to ensure that you are a good candidate for implants.  Dr Wong will also take a 3-D x-ray or CBCT of the area to aid in proper planning and placement of the implant.  In some cases, patients with insufficient bone density or volume may need a bone graft prior to implant placement to help ensure the success of the implant. 
• In your first procedure, Dr. Wong will surgically insert the implant into your jawbone. As it heals, the implant will undergo a process called osseointegration, in which it will fuse with the jawbone much like a natural tooth root. This process typically takes a few months.
• After the implant has healed, a small incision will be made in your gums, and we will place a connecting piece called an abutment onto the implant. 
• Once the abutment incision has healed, your new dental restoration (such as a porcelain crown or bridge) will be connected to the abutment, and you are free to enjoy your new smile!
